Episode 1: Bacon & Hip-Hop

Brussel Sprout Salad

w/ candied bacon

 

Ingredients

Serves 7-10

 

1/2 llb of String beans

1/2 lb of Asparagus

1 pound of Brussel sprouts
1 pint of Grape tomatoes
1 tbsp of salt for blanch
Cold water & ice
3-5 pieces of candied bacon

Shredded cheese
Vinaigrette dressing

Large bowl

  1. Wash All vegetables

  2. Finely slice the brussel sprouts

  3. Blanch string beans and asparagus

    1. Boil a pot of water & add salt

    2. Once water comes to a boil add the veggies in batches

    3. Cook them 2-3 minutes 

    4. Prepare a bowl of ice water

    5. Drop veggies into water ("shock" veggies)

      • This preserves their color 

    6. After they cool (1-2 minutes) take veggies out of water and chop them into thirds

  4. Begin preparing your salad

  5. Cut grape tomatoes in half 

  6. Add blanched veggies, tomatoes, and cheese over the sliced brussel sprouts

  7. Crumb candied bacon over the salad

  8. Add favorite/ homemade vinaigrette dressing
